Eagle Rock Kickoff Party, September 16, 2017
Magic Mountain comes to mind, if it hadn't already been taken. Our day at the foot of Eagle Rock (aka Cerrito Peak) was the perfect start on our journey to raise $350,000 to make this historic part of Morro Bay open space forever.
Our project and our presence was blessed by Native American friends Mary, John and Vennise, who left white sage burning the whole afternoon -- we inhaled the blessing. This blessing was the heart of the day, and the core of our mission.
About 200 of our neighbors joined us to share the calm, sunny day, and to give us their support. And the whole Board of MBOSA and lots of friends of ours pitched in, too.
We had a serene and happy stage, thanks to Nancy Castle. Our thankfully short program was moderated by John Headding. Our perfect music was thanks to John Burch and the Zen Mountain Poets. We enjoyed tasty food thanks to Laura Green and Nicole Dorfman, and to Chuck Stoll and the Lions. We learned from educational displays thanks to Norma Wightman of the Natural History Museum, Jessica Griffiths for the Monarchs; wildlife from Kimberly Perez and Kathy Duncan of PWC; Audubon's Jan Surbey and Kaaren Perry; Walter Heath with Morro Bay in Bloom; the Historical Society of Morro Bay; Betty Winholtz for Save the Park; pleine aire painting demos by Mimi Whitney and Jeff O'Dell; and last but probably first, Dennis Sheridan with his inimitable creatures and charm.
Ken Green saw a Monarch on the peak that morning, and the rest of the day followed in kind.
